I started hand knitting in December 2018 when I thought I had lost my favorite beanie. I knit a beanie and frogged it because there were too many holes and it was too tight. That started my passion in knitting and designing patterns. I love looking at knitwear from way back in the 60s, 70s, etc. Those designs are timeless and they inspire me to work on new designs. I call this blog Purl Island because I live on an island. If you look at the world map and observe the islands, they look like little purl bumps in a sea of knit stitches. Find me on Ravelry @Nikkiroy and Instagram @purlisland.
As for the lifting, I started in February of 2017. I was obsessed with lifting and eventually competed in a small powerlifting competition in 2018. I placed 3rd among the girls and I couldn’t be happier with my progress. I am not so much obsessed anymore but I love sharing my fitness journey. So expect a few posts every now and then.
